Largo loads are ordinary houses on lots with no spare room

Largo is built out and close together. Scrap is a condenser beside the house, aluminum from a carport, and copper from a bathroom in a 1960s or 1970s home. There is rarely a place to stage a large pile, so the photo should show where a truck would stop.

Junk cars become a neighbor problem quickly. If code enforcement is already involved, put that in the note. We still do not post a price. The yard does.

Local prices vary by yard. Send a photo for a quote. We do not publish a Largo scale sheet.

Sort Largo scrap before arranging a pickup

A magnet is a quick first check, not a grade test. If it sticks, the item is likely ferrous, such as steel or iron. If it does not, it may be copper, brass, or aluminum, but other metals can also be non-magnetic. Keep magnetic and non-magnetic material in separate piles when practical. A clean photo of each pile can help a yard decide what details to ask for.

Copper is not one uniform grade. Bare bright is clean, uncoated copper wire; #1 and #2 copper have different levels of coating, solder, or contamination; insulated wire includes its plastic covering. Do not strip wire just to make a pile look cleaner. The extra labor and risk may outweigh any difference in how a yard grades it. Ask the yard how it wants each type kept separate.

Brass fittings and aluminum parts are easier to assess when they are not mixed with steel, rubber, or wood. Keep material dry and remove obvious non-metal attachments when that can be done safely. Do not dismantle sealed equipment or cut into tanks. A yard decides the final grade after inspection, and clean, separated material is not a guarantee of a particular price.

Plan Largo scrap and vehicle pickups around access

Before requesting a pickup, note the access conditions rather than moving everything to the curb. Tell the yard if material is behind a gate, inside a garage, up steps, or blocked by another vehicle. Estimate the amount and identify heavy or unusually long pieces. Clear a safe path, keep children and pets away, and do not stack scrap where it could fall during loading.

For a junk car, have the vehicle location, approximate condition, and available ownership documents ready when asking about pickup. Title and other paperwork requirements can depend on the vehicle and circumstances, so confirm them with the yard before scheduling. Ask whether keys are needed and whether the car must be reachable by a tow vehicle. The yard handles the weigh ticket, payment, and any ID check.

Do not cut refrigerant lines or remove parts from an appliance that may still contain refrigerant. Proper evacuation should be handled by a qualified technician; ask the yard what condition it accepts. Catalytic converters can also require specific proof of ownership or other paperwork, so check before removing or transporting one. This site connects sellers with independent partner yards; it does not buy scrap.

Questions

Should I separate steel from aluminum before asking for a quote?

Yes, if you can do it safely. Steel is usually magnetic, while aluminum is not, and keeping the two apart makes it easier for a yard to understand what is in a load. A magnet is only a rough sorting aid. Do not dismantle equipment or risk injury to separate uncertain materials.

Is it worth stripping insulation from copper wire?

Not always. Stripping takes time, can expose sharp ends, and may not improve the return enough to justify the effort. Yards grade insulated wire separately from bare copper, and grades vary with the wire and contamination. Send a photo or ask the yard how it wants your specific wire sorted before doing extra work.

What should I do with a refrigerator or air conditioner?

Keep it intact unless a qualified technician has properly evacuated the refrigerant. Do not cut refrigerant lines or release the contents. Ask the yard whether it accepts the appliance and what preparation it requires. Its condition and the handling requirements can affect whether it can be taken with other scrap.

What paperwork should I have for a junk car in Largo?

Have ownership documents available and ask the yard what it requires before arranging pickup. Requirements can vary with the vehicle and situation, so do not assume that keys or a registration document alone will be enough. The yard handles any required identification and payment steps directly with the seller.

How do I prepare a tight driveway for a scrap pickup?

Describe gates, parked cars, slopes, overhead obstructions, and the location of the load when you request a quote. Ask what access the yard’s truck or tow vehicle needs. Move loose items from the route and keep people clear of the loading area. Do not relocate heavy scrap by yourself if it is unsafe.
